Zoloft (Sertraline) Administration
Oral Administration
- Although food increases the extent of GI absorption, sertraline may be taken with food to minimize GI adverse effects.
- Sertraline should be administered once daily in the morning (or in the evening if necessary).
- A Medication Guide is available that describes the risks, benefits and appropriate use of therapy in pediatric patients and this guide should be dispensed to such patients during receipt of the drug.
Oral solution preparation and administration:
- The oral solution must be further diluted in an acceptable liquid immediately before administration.
- Measure the dose using the calibrated dropper in the bottle. Next, place the dose in at least 4 ounces (120 ml) of either water, gingerale, lemon-lime soda, lemonade or orange juice and mix. Do not mix in grapefruit juice or in any other fluids other than those listed. The solution may appear hazy once mixed, but this does not affect potency.
- Drink the entire dose of the mixed liquid immediately. Do not mix doses ahead of their needed schedule.
