Food affects the pharmacokinetics of tizanidine depending which dosage form is administered, capsules or tablets. These pharmacokinetic differences may result in clinically significant differences when
1) switching administration of the tablet between with or without food,
2) switching administration of the capsule with or without food,
3) switching between the tablet and capsule with food, or
4) switching between the intact capsule and sprinkling the contents of the capsule on applesauce. These changes may result in increased adverse reactions or delayed/more rapid onset of action, depending upon the nature of the switch. Prescribers should be aware of the changes in tizanidine pharmacokinetics when administering the capsules or tablets with or without food or switching between the capsules and tablets and administering with food.
