Skelaxin Interactions
Concomitant administration of metaxalone with barbiturates, ethanol, and other CNS depressants can potentiate the sedative effects of either agent. Other CNS depressants include anxiolytics, sedatives, and hypnotics; opiate agonists; buprenorphine; butorphanol; nalbuphine; pentazocine; phenothiazines; dronabinol, THC, sedating H1-blockers; tricyclic antidepressants; tramadol; and the phytomedicinal herbs valerian, Valeriana officinalis or kava kava, Piper methysticum.
Administering metaxalone with food may increase the risk of common drug-related side effects after administration and may result in a decreased duration of drug effect. Administration of metaxalone with a high-fat meal increases the mean Cmax and AUC to 177.5% and 123.5%, respectively. In addition, the mean terminal half-life is substantially decreased following administration of the drug with a high-fat meal.
