Scopolamine Administration

Ophthalmic administration


  • For ophthalmic use only. Instruct patient on proper instillation of ophthalmic solution (see Patient Information).
  • To avoid systemic absorption, instruct patient to apply pressure to the lacrimal sac for 1 - 2 minutes after instillation.
  • Do not to touch the tip of the dropper or tube to the eye, fingertips, or other surface.

Parenteral administration


  • May be administered subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously.
  • Visually inspect parenteral products for particulate matter and discoloration prior to administration whenever solution and container permit.

Intramuscular injection:


  • Inject into a large muscle. Aspirate prior to injection to avoid injection into a blood vessel.

Direct IV injection:


  • Dilute with an equal volume of sterile water for injection prior to administration.
  • Inject slowly IV over 2 - 3 minutes.

Subcutaneous injection:


  • Inject subcutaneously taking care not to inject intradermally.

Topical administration


  • Instruct patient on the proper use and application of the transdermal patch.
  • Wash hands after application.
  • Apply patch at least 4 hours prior to anticipated exposure to motion.
