Mometasone Administration, Monitoring Parameters and Chemical Structure
Mometasone Administration
Topical Administration
- Cream or ointment: Apply a thin film to the affected areas. Do not use occlusive dressings.
- Lotion: Apply to the affected areas and massage lightly until the lotion disappears. For the most effective and economical use, hold the nozzle of the bottle very close to the affected areas and gently squeeze.
Intranasal Administration
NOTE: The nasal spray for intranasal administration delivers 50 mcg/spray.
- Before using for the first time the unit must be primed. Keep the sprayer pointed away from patient, other people, and pets. Pump the activator 10 times or until a fine spray appears. If the unit has not been used for 1 week, reprime by pumping the activator twice or until a fine spray appears.
- Instruct patient on the proper use of the nasal spray (see Patient Information).
- After administration, rinse the tip of the spray bottle with hot water, taking care not to suck water into the bottle, and dry with a clean tissue. Replace the cap right after cleaning.
- To avoid the spread of infection, do not use the inhaler in more than one person.
Inhalation Administration (Asmanex Twisthaler® 220 mcg)
NOTE: The twisthaler for oral inhalation delivers 200 mcg/puff of mometasone furoate from the mouthpiece.
- Instruct patient on the proper use of the inhaler (see Patient Information, and patient information from the Twisthaler® package).
- The digital dose counter on the inhaler displays the doses remaining. When the counter indicates ‘0’, the cap will lock and the unit must be discarded. If the dose counter is not working correctly, the unit should not be used.
- After administration, gently wipe the mouthpiece with a drug cloth or tissue as needed. Do not wash the inhaler.
- To avoid the spread of infection, do not use the inhaler in more than one person.
