Fluoxetine Administration
Oral Administration
May be administered without regard to meals.
Conventional dosage forms: In most patients, the initial daily dose should be given in the morning. However, a small number of patients (5-10%) experience sedation. In these individuals, give the dose at bedtime. If the first few doses are not well tolerated, consider restarting with 5-10 mg PO/day. Doses should usually be divided into two or more doses when the total daily dose is >= 40 mg/day. Divided doses are recommended to be administered in the morning and at noon (manufacturer recommendations).
Oral solution: Measure dosage with an oral syringe or calibrated measuring device.
Prozac® Weekly: Capsule contains enteric-coated pellets. Swallow whole, do not crush, cut or chew.
