Fluconazole (Diflucan) Administration
Oral Administration
- May be administered without regard to meals.
- Reconstitution method for oral suspension: Prior to reconstitution, tap the bottle several times to loosen the powder. Add 24 ml of distilled or purified water to bottles containing 0.35 or 1.4 grams of fluconazole and shake vigorously. Final concentrations should be 50 or 200 mg/5 ml, respectively. Shake well prior to each administration. Reconstituted suspension is stable for 14 days when stored at 5-30 degrees C.
Intravenous Administration
- IV therapy is usually reserved for patients unable to tolerate or take fluconazole orally.
- Visually inspect parenteral products for particulate matter and discoloration prior to administration whenever solution and container permit.
- Infuse IV at a rate not to exceed 200 mg/hour.
