Colchicine Administration, Monitoring Parameters & Chemical Structure

Colchicine Administration

Oral Administration

  • Administer with food to minimize gastric irritation.

Intravenous Administration
WARNING: Parenteral colchicine is for IV administration only. Colchicine should never be injected subcutaneously or intramuscularly due to severe local irritation. It is extremely important that the needle be properly positioned in the vein before injection. There is no antidote for prevention of tissue damage that may ensue if extravastion occurs.

  • Inject directly into a vein or into the tubing of a free-flowing compatible IV solution. The injection should take 2 - 5 minutes for completion.

Dilution:

  • Dilute appropriate dose in NS injection or sterile water for injection.
  • Visually inspect parenteral products for particulate matter and discoloration prior to administration.
