Clarinex (Desloratadine) Indications...Dosage
For the relief of nasal and non-nasal symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis:
Oral dosage:
Adults including the elderly, adolescents, and children >= 12 years: 5 mg PO once daily.
Children 6-11 years: 2.5 mg (5 ml oral syrup) PO once daily, administered as oral syrup.
Children 2-5 years: 1.25 mg (2.5 ml oral syrup) PO once daily, administered as oral syrup.
Children and Infants 6-23 months: Safe and effective use has not been established for this indication.
Infants < 6 months: Not recommended.
For the treatment of symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria (e.g., relief of pruritus, reduction in the size and number of hives):
Oral dosage:
Adults including the elderly, adolescents, and children >= 12 years: 5 mg PO once daily.
Children 6-11 years: 2.5 mg (5 ml oral syrup) PO once daily, administered as oral syrup.
Children 1-5 years: 1.25 mg (2.5 ml oral syrup) PO once daily, administered as oral syrup.
Infants 6-11 months: 1 mg (2 ml oral syrup) PO once daily, administered as oral syrup.
Infants < 6 months: Not recommended.
Maximum Dosage Limits:
- Adults: 5 mg/day PO.
- Elderly: 5 mg/day PO.
- Adolescents >= 12 years: 5 mg/day PO.
- Children 6-11 years: 2.5 mg/day PO.
- Children 1-5 years: 1.25 mg/day PO.
- Infants 6-11 months: 1 mg/day PO.
- Infants < 6 months: Not recommended.
Patients with hepatic impairment:
In adults with hepatic impairment, a starting dose of 5 mg PO every other day is recommended.
Patients with renal impairment:
CrCl <= 50 ml/min: In adults, 5 mg PO every other day is recommended.
Intermittent hemodialysis:
Desloratadine and its metabolite are not removed by hemodialysis.
