Amoxicillin Administration
Oral Administration
Amoxicillin may be administered without regard to meals. However, the 875-mg tablet has been studied only when administered prior to a light meal.
DisperMox™ tablets for oral suspension: Mix one tablet in a small amount of water (about 2 teaspoonfuls). Drink the entire mixture. Rinse the container with an additional small amount of water and drink the contents to assure the whole dose is taken. Do not chew or swallow the tablets. The tablets will not rapidly dissolve in the mouth. The tablet is not recommended to be mixed with any liquid other than water; studies have only been conducted using water. The 200-mg tablet is only appropriate for a 200-mg dose and the 400-mg tablet is only appropriate for a 400-mg dose.
Suspension or drops: Shake well prior to each administration. Measure dosage with calibrated spoon, cup, or oral syringe.
Reconstitution method for the oral suspension:
Prior to reconstitution, tap the bottle several times to loosen the powder. Add approximately 1/3 of the total amount of water as listed and shake well. Add the remainder of the water and shake well.
125 mg/5 ml suspension bottles: Reconstitute with 62, 78, or 116 ml of water for the 80, 100, or 150 ml bottles, respectively.
200 mg/5 ml suspension bottles: Reconstitute with 5, 39, 57, or 76 ml of water for the 5, 50, 75, or 100 ml bottles, respectively.
250 mg/5 ml suspension bottles: Reconstitute with 59, 74, or 111 ml of water for the 80, 100, or 150 ml bottles, respectively, and shake well.
400 mg/5 ml suspension bottles: Reconstitute with 5, 36, 54, or 71 ml of water for the 5, 50, 75, or 100 ml bottles, respectively.
Pediatric drops (50 mg/ml): Add 12 or 23 ml of water to the 15 or 30 ml bottle, respectively, and shake well.
Storage after reconstitution: The suspension or drops should be stored at controlled room temperature or under refrigeration (preferred). Discard any unused suspension or drops after 14 days.
