PROCHLORPERAZINE helps to control nausea and vomiting that can occur after surgery, or with the treatment of cancer (chemotherapy). Prochlorperazine also treats psychological or mental disorders. Another use of prochlorperazine is the treatment of non-psychotic anxiety (nervousness). Generic prochlorperazine tablets are available.

Prochlorperazine Administration
Oral administration
- Tablets or capsules: Administer with food, milk, or a glass of water to minimize gastric irritation. Administer extended-release products intact; should not be chewed or crushed.
- Oral syrup: May be diluted in citrus or chocolate-flavored drinks. NOTE: Oral liquid preparations of prochlorperazine are no longer available in the US.
Rectal administration
- Instruct patient on proper use of suppository (see Patient Information).
- Moisten the suppository with water prior to insertion. If suppository is too soft because of storage in a warm place, chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or run cold water over it before removing the wrapper.
