El LEVONORGESTREL (Mirena®) es un dispositivo intrauterino (DIU) que constituye un método anticonceptivo eficaz. El dispositivo libera la hormona levonorgestrel en el útero para evitar el embarazo durante un período de hasta 5 años. Sólo pequeñas cantidades de la hormona ingresan a la sangre. No hay DIUs genéricos disponibles.

What is levonorgestrel emergency contraceptive kit?
LEVONORGESTREL (Plan B) products are effective as emergency oral contraceptives (emergency birth control pills). This product can prevent ovulation and pregnancy after unprotected sex. Levonorgestrel will not work if you are already pregnant; it will not ‘abort’ a pregnancy that has already started. After consultation with a health care professional, this kit can be used for emergency contraception within the 72 hours after unprotected sex. A generic levonorgestrel emergency contraceptive kit is not yet available.

What are levonorgestrel implant capsules?
LEVONORGESTREL (Norplant®) is a contraceptive (birth control) device that is surgically implanted under the skin. The device releases the hormone levonorgestrel, a progestin, in the body to prevent pregnancy for up to 5 years. Once the implant capsules are removed, fertility quickly returns to normal. Generic levonorgestrel implant capsules are not yet available. NOTE: Norplant® is discontinued in the US as of mid-2002.
